Erotic museum closes

KAUNAS, Lithuania — Kaunas’ Erotic Museum closed down this week, just one season shy of its first birthday.

Visitors found the doors locked and the entrance sign removed as they went to visit the museum Tuesday on Daukanto Street in Lithuania’s second-largest city. There was also a note that the [private_supervisor]museum, which had around 300 items, would no longer operate.

The country’s first private erotic museum opened on July 13 last year inside the old Metropolis restaurant, which also is no longer operating on the premises. The venue seems to be cursed because previous to the museum, a nightclub had opened and is now also closed.

The items in the museum were from many different eras, some even predating World War II.

Residents living nearby told local media that the tickets to the museum were made 10 litai (€2.90) so it was cheaper than going to the cinema. In doing so, the museum attracted many young people who were curious about the subject, but unfortunately not enough to keep the unusual, privately-owned business afloat. The museum was the only one of its kind in the largely conservative, Catholic country.[/private_supervisor] [private_subscription 1 month]museum, which had around 300 items, would no longer operate.
