Sevastova ousted early

LONDON — Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova has suffered an early exit from the ladies single draw, falling to former world no.1 Justine Henin.

After having a strong build up to the French Open, a tough draw there and here as well has subsequently seen the promising young Latvian packing her bags earlier than what some pundits may have predicted.

Here the rising star came up against a star in resurrection with the 17th seeding handed to opponent Henin of Belgium not a true reflection of the former star’s true ability.

Having taken a prolonged break from tennis, Henin is not long returned and still on the road back to once again dominating women’s tennis. Her low seeding was ultimately the undoing of Sevastova who was barely able to trouble her in their first round clash.

Pushing Sevastova to break point seven times throughout the clash, she only needed to convert her break opportunities on three occasions to wrap the game up in two sets 4-6, 3-6.

Sevastova may now be able to enjoy Latvian midsummer’s eve with her friends before her attention turns to qualifying directly for the US Open, the fourth and final grand slam of 2010.
