Baltic football leagues round-up Sept. 1-7

Meistriliiga (Estonia)

Only one game took place in the Meistriliiga over the past week, with attention instead being focused on the national team and their bid to qualify for South Africa 2010.

Although there was only one match, it was a game with much interest surrounding it as the two table-topping teams, Sillamae Kalev and Levadia met in an attempt to break their deadlock as Meistriliiga leaders.

However, Sillamäe Kalev did not put in a performance of a table topping team, being humiliated 6-1, with Levadia scoring four unanswered second-half goals. If Levadia continue to show this form, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the Triobet Baltic League later this month.

LMT Virslīga (Latvia)

Similar to their northern neighbours, the Virslīga also only saw one game played in the last week, with most focus being placed on the national team. Playing away to Tranzits, Blāzma managed to secure two points with a one-all draw. This helps them climb away from the wooden spoon position on the ladder.

A-Lyga (Lithuania)

It was also a quiet league in Lithuanian domestic action with just two games played. Playing away, Taurus were far too strong for Kruoja, scoring three second-half goals for a 3-0 victory. In the other game, Šiauliai also scored an away win, defeating Banga 2-1.
