Two Latvian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan — Two Latvian soldiers were lightly wounded yesterday in Afghanistan’s sparsely populated Nuristan province after the observation post they were stationed at was attacked by insurgent forces.

Both soldiers are being hospitalized and their injuries are not life threatening. The soldiers are part of Latvia’s 165-strong contingent of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force. Three Latvian soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan.

The Nuristan province lies between Kabul and Pakistan and is under the command of American forces.
