Late goal not enough for Dinamo Riga

MOSCOW — Dinamo Riga has ended its four-game road trip with a 2-1 loss to CSKA Moscow despite scoring a late goal in the Russian capital on Saturday evening.

After a promising start to their road trip with two wins, Dinamo Riga were brought back down to earth after their last two performances failed to materialize into competition points. Dinamo Riga are now left languishing near the foot of the table with a two-win, four-loss record.

After being involved in some high-scoring affairs of late, Saturday’s match for Dinamo Riga was quiet in comparison. It was 13 minutes before the first goal of the evening came, when Denis Parshin scored to put the hosts one up. His goal was followed by his team’s second some five minutes later when Alexander Syglobov was able to put one in the back of the net.

The second period failed to produce much action with the only highlights being two power plays to Dinamo Riga and one to CSKA, yet neither team was able to push home their extra-man advantage. It was another disappointing night for Dinamo Riga in regards to power plays, the visitors unable to make anything from the six power plays in their advantage.

Dinamo Riga seemed to lack the urgency required in the final period, perhaps a sign of fatigue as the team came to the end of their road trip. This lack of urgency failed to produce the shots on goal needed if they stood a chance of rallying a late comeback. When they did finally produce a goal courtesy of Lauris Dārziņš in the final minute of the game, it was simply of case of too little too late.

Dinamo Riga will be looking forward to returning to the familiar surroundings of home for their next three games, beginning with SKA from Saint Petersburg on Wednesday. SKA’s most recent outing produced a 5-1 victory over Amir.
