VILNIUS — The airline Iceland Express may be the latest new company to frequent Vilnius International Airport after it began negotiations with the airport about flying from the Lithuanian capital.
“We have not made any agreements yet,” the airport’s CEO Tomas Vaišvila told Baltic Reports. “But they contacted us and asked us about what all the details and regulations and requirements were. We expect to hear from them in around two weeks.”
According to the Lithuanian Development Agency, Iceland Express will launch regular flights to about eight different destinations from the airport.
Lithuania Express, established by the founders and original owners of Iceland Express, will operate at least 20 flights per week to Amsterdam, Berlin and other cities, the agency said.
The agency says the company is planning to create 40 jobs by the end of the present year and 20 jobs next spring.
Iceland Express, however, denied that the flights would be operating when contacted by Baltic Reports.
Vilnius has been hard to reach ever since flyLAL declared bankruptcy in January this year and airBaltic withdrew most of their services from the Lithuanian captial.
