MOSCOW — Dinamo Riga were not able to hold on following a strong start, going down 4-2 to Metallurg on Saturday evening in their away match in the Russian capital in the KHL.
Dinamo Riga produced one of its best first periods to date this season, looking a lot more focused against top-of-the table Metallurg. The first blow went to Dinamo Riga on their first power play of the evening when Marcel Hossa’s goal scoring formed continued, feeding of a great pass from Aleksandrs Ņiživijs to put the visitors up 1-0 in the 12th minute.
Fedor Fedorov had the hosts back on equal footing early in the second period, before Denis Platanov scored a second for Metallurg to give them the upper-hand just six minutes into the second period. However, Marcel Hossa was again the recipient of a great assist, this time to Mike Iggulden as they combined in the 10th minute to once again tie the game up. Metallurg capped of a strong period adding a third through Alexander Salyuyanov late in the piece.
Just over two minutes into the final period Stanislav Chistov added the final blow the hosts, taking the game out of Dinamo Riga’s reach. They did enjoy a power play late in the match but unfortunately they were not able to make anything of it.
Dinamo Riga’s road trip will come to an end on tomorrow night when they take on Traktors in Chelyabinsk. Traktors are currently sitting mid-table and Dinamo Riga will be hungry to salvage something from their second road trip of the season.
