Baltic leagues football round-up Oct. 11 – 19

All leagues enjoyed a week off to make way for the commitments of their respective national teams but with World Cup qualifying now out of the way, all leagues were back in action over the past week.

Meistriliiga (Estonia)

Levadia had little trouble with staying on top of the Meistriiliga with a convincing 3-0 home win over Tulevik after going into the break with a 2-0 lead. Sillamäe Kalev also remained out of trouble to hold onto second spot with three second-half goals giving them a 3-0 win over Kuressaare who remain lingering near the bottom of the table. Travelling to Paide, Flora had a quiet first half with just the one goal being produced from the penalty spot. However, the floodgates opened after the break with a further five goals being scored to give them a comprehensive 6-0 victory. In the other two games, Trans managed a 1-0 home victory over Tallinna Kalev whilst a 90th minute goal assured Maag Tammeka a 1-1 away draw to Kalju.

LMT Virslīga (Latvia)

Ventspils managed to develop a slender lead over Liepāja at the top of the table courtesy of a convincing 8-0 victory over Daugava Riga, followed by a just as convincing 4-1 victory over a tougher opponent Jūrmala. Meanwhile Skonto effectively fell off the place at the top of the table when they were destroyed by an in-form Liepāja 6-1 at home. Daugava Riga managed to recover from their setback earlier in the week to record their second victory over the season when they defeated Tranzits at home 2-1. In the only other game played, Olimps claimed a 3-2 home victory over Blazma.

A-Lyga (Lithuania)

When Vėtra could only manage a 1-1 away draw to third placed Sūduva, Ekranas made no mistake in going top of the table when they produced a convincing 3-1 away win over Šiauliai. In the other games, Banga were too good for hosts Kruoja winning 2-1, whilst Tauras were too strong at home for LKKA winning 3-0.
