RIGA — A young man stood atop the middle tower of Riga’s Vanšu Tilts (Shroud Bridge) threatening to jump off for several hours before climbing down Tuesday.

Police arrested the man upon his descent and he will undergo psychological evaluation and possible criminal charges. Meanwhile bridge has been reopened for traffic. The man’s stunt forced the closure of the bridge, causing major traffic gridlocks in the downtown Riga.

The man was on the tower since 2 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. local time. Police say he is 22 years old.

This is hardly the first time someone has illegally scaled the bridge — several men have done so over the past few years.

A crowd of at least one hundred is gawked at the spectacle until the man descended. Some joked that it could be another hoax like yesterday’s false meteor crash.
