JELGAVA, Latvia — Tuesday saw the beginning of the 1st round return-leg matches in the Triobet Baltic League.
Action got underway at 2 p.m. when Estonian champions FC Levadia Tallinn hosted underdogs FK Taurus from Lithuania. In what is something of a shock, league newcomers FK Taurus went into the match 1-0 following their first leg fixture.
Having already secured the Estonian title this season, Levadia assistant coach Marko Kristal said securing their fourth league title in a row has been “a massive boost for team morale.”‘ He said it was important to get the victory in front of the club’s loyal supporters.
Estonia host a second game when FC Flora take on FK Šiauliai. This is expected to be an extremely tight encounter, although Flora arguably have the slight advantage in that they managed to grab an invaluable away goal in the 1-1 first leg tie.
Flora’s assistant coach Janno Kivisild predicts an interesting game, based on the fact he believes the two teams employ very different tactics.
Jurmala face the biggest challenge of the day when they travel from Latvia to Lithuania to take on current A-Lyga leaders FK Ekranas with a 3-1 deficit to overcome.
Jurmala’s realistic chances were reflected in the comments of their manager Vladimirs Babičevs who admits that the chances of his team progressing are “not too big.”
The game will be broadcast live on Viasat Sport Baltic at 7pm local time.
