KAUNAS, Lithuania — An automated teller machine was destroyed by explosives early Friday morning in Kaunas in what police expect was an attempt by robbers to cover their tracks.
Police say about 80,000 litai (€23,000) was taken from the Snoras kiosk. No injuries were reported, nor were any nearby structures damaged. A similar incident occurred in October 2008, and police say the same culprits may be involved.
Police made two arrests in the case today — Juras Reinikovas, 34 and Vilius Jėgelavičius, 27, both from Kaunas. Both men were arrested while attempting to board a flight from Kaunas to London. Reinikovas has been convicted of robbery before.
