VILNIUS — Belorusneft, the state-owned Belarusian oil company, announced plans this week to build, buy, or rent an oil terminal in one of the Baltic Sea ports in order to handle its expected 50 percent increase in production next year.
“There are questions about the most appropriate route for us,” said Nikolai Vasilievich, a Belorusneft director general told the Verslo Zinios newspaper. “The terminals are steady and used efficiently. Any prices will include railway tariffs for transportation of our products from neighboring countries to the Baltics.”
In September, Belorusneft posted an open tender on their website seeking a bids on long term sales of fuel oil, and listed the Port of Klaipėda as one of the sites for delivery.
Arturas Drungilas, director of marketing at the Klaipėda port, said that he had not heard from any Belorusneft representative.
“Of course they are welcome,” Drungilas told Baltic Reports.
