Estonian destined for American football?

Margus Hunt's story is truly inspirational.

Estonia's Margus Hunt excels at several sports and is currently making a name for himself in the U.S.

DALLAS — Is Margus Hunt destined for the National Football League?

If you listen to football head coach at Southern Methodist University he is.

With football journalists across the United States taking an interest in Hunt, I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney is sensing a new film in the making because the Hunt’s story truly is that remarkable.

In the past ten years Estonia has made a habit of producing world-class shot put and discus throw athletes, with Hunt being no exception. In his chosen sports growing up Hunt showed great prowess, winning gold in both disciplines at the 2006 World Junior Championships in Beijing.

Hoping to further his chances in his sport, as well as in his education Hunt moved to Dallas in Fall 2007 to attend Southern Methodist University and work with renowned track and field coach Dave Wollman. It is an odd place for Wollman to be based considering track and field is not currently part of the school’s sport program.

Standing at 6-foot-9 (2 m) and weighing in at 297 pounds (134 kg), Hunt imposed a solid shadow around campus and soon caught the attention of the school’s American football coaching staff, who convinced the Estonian to give the sport a go before moving on to another school when it became apparent that the school’s track and field program would not be reinstated.

In just his first season, Hunt has already achieved a remarkable feat of already blocking seven kicks, leading to his coach’s lofty predictions of him one day being an NFL prospect.

Obviously as freshman and in only his first year of the sport he still has a long way to go and a lot to learn but this journalist is already predicting a film in the not to distant future. Oh, did I mention “The Terminator” is his nickname?
