TARTU — Two schools in Tartu received a bomb threat Wednesday morning and another for a shooting via an internet forum post Tuesday evening, causing the schools to temporarily close.
A threat about a possible shooting in Tartu Commerce School was posted on the image forum website 4chan, promising to break the record made by Seung-Hui Cho, who killed 32 fellow students in Virginia in 2007. Meanwhile bomb threats were made by phone to Forselius School, and Tartu Art School Wednesday morning by two male persons. The students were evacuated and the bomb squad searched the building, but no explosives were found.
South Police Prefecture officers found an 18-year old young man who admits he posted the school shooting threat on the Internet forum.
Since the criminal investigation was initiated, police questioned teachers and parents and gathered other evidence and determined there is no danger that the threat will be carried out.
Two bomb threats
That the first bomb threat call was made to Tartu Art School at 11:38 a.m. Wednesday morning, and the second to Forselius School at 12:09 p.m.
At each school the students were evacuated and the classrooms were searched by bomb inspectors.
“The whole operation for both schools took approximately 1.5 hours, but nothing suspicious was found,“ Marek Simulman, press representative of Estonian Rescue Service, told Baltic Reports.
According to Marge Püss, South District Prosecutor, one person, is being questioned concerning the bomb threat to Forselius School, but no other suspects have not yet found. Püss said it’s not a student, but an older man.
“The threats are not connected in any way, and the threats are not serious,” Püss told Baltic Reports of the day’s incidents.
The suspect can be held for 48 hours, unless the court will decide otherwise. The penalty for calling in a false bomb threat is up to five years in prison and a fine.
