Swine flu kills 7 more, but spread slows

RIGA — Seven more people have died from swine flu in Latvia, the country’s Infectious Diseases Center reported, taking the total to 24 deaths.

Two of the last week’s deaths were in Riga with two women aged 51 and 32 dying from the virus. One 46-year-old woman and four men aged 51, 58, 50 and 41 living outside the capital, died from A/H1N1 virus-related complications. All of the patients had other illnesses and died of complications added by the virus.

The virus’ spread appears to be slowing in the country — now only 65 people per 100,000 residents are estimated to be infected, down from over 500 cases per 100,000 residents at its peak.
