KOHTLA-JÄRVE, Estonia — A fire in an abandoned house in Kohtla-Järve claimed a man’s life early Tuesday morning.
The Kohtla-Järve emergency call center received a call about the fire at 3.26 am. Soon after four rescue teams from Jõhvi and Kohtla-Järve were sent to put out the fire. However, the one-floor house was already engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on site and the corpse of a man was found inside. The last flames among the ruins of the home were put out at 5:34 a.m.
The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
Already twelve people have been killed in house fires this month. The main causes have been careless smoking, negligent use of open fire and over-heating.
