TALSI, Latvia — A fire in a ramshackle garden shed claimed the lives of four homeless people temporarily squatting in the structure Saturday night.

The fire was reported at 9:40 p.m. and it took firefighters until 11:15 p.m. to put the fire out. The four were killed before firefighters arrived, and their gender was impossible to determine.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Talsi is a small town located in northwest Latvia in the Kurzeme province.
