TALLINN — Despite the Estonia’s bad economic situation, the Port of Tallinn earned a record profit and amount of visitors in 2009.

The port reported Monday, that its consolidated sales revenue was 1.2 billion krooni (€80 million), its best return of all time and up 8 percent from 2008. However, the consolidated pure profit in 2009 was 407 million krooni (€26 million), a  2 percent from the previous year.

The port served 7.26 million passengers, which is again the best result of all time as well due to an an increase in cruise ship passengers.

Its 31.6 million metric tons of cargo capacity grew 9 percent from 2008, placing the Port of Tallinn on the third position after Primorsk and St. Petersburg for most freight traffic in the Baltic Sea.
