VILNIUS — After reaching an agreement with labor unions, the Lithuania’s Council of Ministers will meet Wednesday to discuss cutting hours of operations throughout the national government.
The cuts are to be implemented as a cost-saving measure and has been quietly tried out at various government agencies thus far without public announcements. Currently most government agencies operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday but only work until 3 p.m. on Fridays.
Public sector employees will likely face wage cuts as a result of the shortened working hours.
