Sevastova’s run halted

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Anastasija Sevastova’s run at the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championship has come to a halt this evening.

Having already achieved so much by just qualifying for the tournament, ad then making it into second-round on the back of a fine first round performance, Sevastova has finally met her match in Pole, Agnieszka Radwańska.

Sevastova would have been liking her chances early on, breaking Radwańska on her second serve to grab a quick 3-1 lead. However, she was to blow the advantage as soon as she claimed it, with Radwańska breaking [private_supervisor]straight back. Sevastova continued to battle her way through the opening set, finding herself unable to win the important points, particularly on her own serve, finally falling 6-3.

Unfortunately for the world no. 80, the second set was to the mirror the first, having her own serve broken twice, whilst in return failing to break the serve of her opponent as she again fell 6-3.

The young Latvian should not become too disheartened from the loss, instead savoring the fact that she has had invaluable court time with a world top 10 player. The fact that she was also able to win three games in each set should suggest to her that she is not far off a significant move through the ranks to hold her own in the world top 20.
