TALLINN — Despite the two SEB bank robberies that hit headlines recently and the continuing financial crisis, the statistics shows the number of robberies has reduced compared to last year.
There were 52 robberies registered in Tallinn in Jan. 2009, but only 26 in Jan. 2010. Most of the thefts happened in Lasnamäe borough, located on the city’s east side and largely made up of Soviet-era block apartments, where already eight [private_supervisor]robberies were reported this month. The victims were primarily children, elderly women and intoxicated individuals.
“There are a significant number of drunk victims, who are an easy target for the criminals,” Rait Pikaro, head of department offenses against persons at the Northern Police Prefecture told the press.
Pikaro said that most of these robberies were committed by drug addicts trying to support their habit, previous offenders and troubled minors searching for fast money without thinking on the consequences.[/private_supervisor] [private_subscription 1 month]robberies were reported this month.
