VILNIUS — A house fire in Balceriškiai, a village near Elektrėnai, Lithuania claimed the life of at least three people temporarily squatting in the abandoned structure.
The fire was reported by a neighbor at 4:45 a.m. Thursday morning, but by the time firefighters arrived the structure was already consumed in flames. Firefighters said accessing the wooden building was difficult given the accumulation of snow. The cause of the blaze has not been determined yet.
Inside three corpses were found and authorities speculate that more could be found. The bodies were burned so badly, they could not be readily identified.
Elektrėnai is 40 km northeast of Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital.
