TALLINN — An unidentified man allegedly attacked two girls with a crowbar Friday night, seemingly at random, in the Kristiine borough in central Tallinn. The girls were not seriously hurt and the attacker escaped.
The incident took place around 7.30 p.m. on Õle street, which is about 1.5 km west of Old Town. The victims, an 18-year-old and 16-year-old girl were on their way home when they encountered the attacker, who hit them from [private_supervisor]behind with a crowbar.
According to police, the man escaped immediately after hitting the girls as he was in view of other bystanders. The girls then called the police and ambulance. Both were taken to the hospital, but non of them got severe injuries.
The motives of the attack is not clear. Police have ruled out robbery as a cause. The attack resembles the Toompark murder case, when also two women were attacked; however, the description of two attackers vary, the police will determine whether it is the same criminal. The alleged attacker was 170 cm tall, and 20-25 years old, and spoke Russian, according to his victims. The suspected Toompark attacker on the other hand is 180-185 cm tall, thin and has dark hair and a dark tan complexion, and 25-35 years old.
“In both of the cases the alleged attacker assaulted random people, and both of the times a weapon was used instead of hands or feet,” Maria-Elisa Tuulik, the Northern District Prosecutor’s Office press spokeswoman, told Baltic Reports. “Although the description is different. the police will examine the possibility whether it is the same attacker.”
No other details are being disclosed and the investigation is ongoing for both this case and the deadly Toompark assault. [/private_supervisor] [private_subscription 1 month]behind with a crowbar.
