House fire kills two

VÄÄTSA, Estonia — A house fire in the Piiumetsa village in Järva County claimed two lives Thursday night.

The emergency call center received a call about the fire at 1:35 a.m. Part of the ceiling of the one-floor house had collapsed when the call was made. The caller, who lived in the neighborhood, said that two persons could be inside of the building.

However, the one-floor house was already engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and the entire roof had crashed in. Soon after rescue teams from Paide and Türi, along with Vahastu volunteers were sent to put out the fire. Two corpses were found inside. The last flames among the ruins of the home were put out at 5 a.m, and the house is no longer fit for living.

Sirle Matt, press spokeswoman of Western Estonian Rescue Center told Baltic Reports that one man and one woman died, but their age has not yet been determined.
