MOSCOW — Žalgiris has ended their Euroleague season with a 71-84 loss to CSKA Moscow.
Victory would have set up an improbable chance of advancing to the next round, but CSKA for the most part were untroubled by their guests, advancing to the next round as top of their group.
Žalgiris’ best was saved for the end, taking the final quarter by 3 (20-17) but by then the damaged had already been inflicted. Mantas Kalnietis was the best of the Lithuanians, finishing with 22 points.
It was an improbable string of events that saw Žalgiris advance past the opening round in the first place, so the Lithuanians, who were sporting a young, relatively inexperienced roster this season should be happy with the two wins they managed in the second round.
