VILNIUS — Vilnius’ police bomb squad was called to the Akropolis shopping mall at 8 p.m. on Sunday evening after security spotted a hand grenade in a rubbish bin.
Police confirmed to Baltic Reports that bomb specialists investigated the hand grenade, but found it to be a F1 hand grenade that contained no explosives. This type of grenade is used for training purposes.
By 9 p.m. police had finished investigations and declared the scene safe.
Akropolis is one of the city’s biggest and most popular shopping malls.
Police say its unclear why the grenade was placed in the bin.
