RIGA — The largest indoor marijuana farm ever detected in Latvia’s history was busted by police Friday, resulting in the seizure of 3,500 marijuana plants and more than 9 kg of dried marijuana.
The customs criminal investigation board of the State Revenue Service in the Kurzeme Region is currently holding two suspects in custody in relation to the case. The suspects are Latvian citizens, born in 1977 and 1972. For the interests of the investigation more detailed information is not being provided.
The bust is the culmination of a year and a half long investigation into [private_supervisor]marijuana smuggling from Latvia into Estonia.
Large-scale
The impressive complex of three buildings was in a remote, forested area. The marijuana plant was carefully guarded — it had movement sensors and the surroundings were continuously monitored, therefore it was possible to enter the building only by a rapid attack.
The complex of buildings consisted of a barn which on two floors accommodated the marijuana plant, drying units, equipped with three powerful and modern diesel fuel generators, as well as residential houses, where drug plant workers were living and plant singling and most probably packaging took place. The size of the illegal plant is suggested also by the fact that in the territory there were about six tons of diesel fuels of unknown origin.
In order to conceal the specific and strong smell of the plants, marijuana growers kept domestic animals — pigs and poultry. [/private_supervisor] [private_subscription 1 month]marijuana smuggling from Latvia into Estonia.
