RIGA — If you came to Riga for spring break, you’re probably stuck for the next few days because of some volcano in Iceland. But in the meantime, you can enjoy the best dance festival.
The International Baltic Ballet Festival starts Friday, but its name is deceiving. It’s not just classical ballet but also avant-garde, traditional African, hip-hop and jazz dance.
The event stretches over [private_supervisor]the next two weeks. Participating dance companies include the Afro-centric Georges Momboye Dance Company hailing from France, the “Bad Boys of Dance” show from the Rasta Thomas Dancy Company out of New York which has been featured on popular TV shows like “Dancing with the Stars” and the Kannon Dance Center’s troupe of jazz and contemporary, out of St. Petersburg, Russia.

Wednesday April 21 5 p.m. — Opening of the Dance of Art in the Stage Space exhibition at the Mezendorff House
Wednesday April 21 7 p.m. — “Boyakodah” by Georges Momboye Dance Company at the Jūras Vārti theatre hall in Ventspils

Tuesday April 27 7 p.m. — Gala concert at the Latvian National Opera featuring ballet stars from USA, Sweden, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Belarus
