Street Musician’s Day largely halted by rain

VILNIUS — Last year Vilnius’ always-fun Street Musician’s Day went off without a hitch but this year the usual suspect in wrecking outdoor festivals, rain, ended up keeping many of the musicians and audience indoors.

The music started at noon Saturday and the downpour didn’t start until about 4 p.m., which let the artists earlier on the schedule still play.

The event’s most high-profile act, Irish/Lithuanian amalgam favorites Skamp who mix synthpop, hip-hop, acoustic rock and other styles, did make it onstage, as well as other up-and-coming talents such as Domantas Razauskas, whose acoustic-driven rock touches on blues, Lithuanian folk and Eastern melodies.

Since the heavy rain continued until nearly 10 p.m., most of the other performers canceled and the usually crowded streets were mostly empty. Here’s to next year’s!
