ESTORIL, Portugal — Latvian Anastasija Sevastova is set to appear in her first ever WTA Tour final.
The young Latvian’s dream year is set to continue, backing up from a semi final appearance in Mexico in March to romp into the final here in Estoril, beating 7th seed Shuai Peng of China 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-3.
Where a lesser player may have faulted after coming so close with no reward in the first set, Sevastova only grew stronger putting the disappointment of the lost tiebreak behind her to completely take Peng out of the match.
The telling stat was Sevastova saving 8 break points whilst only dropping 4 while her Chinese opponent could only save 6 from 14.
In the final Sevastova will come up against Spaniard Anrantxa Parra-Santonja who is currently ranked 7 places below the Latvian at 81 in the world.
