TALLINN — Estonian travel agency Top Tours went out of business on Friday, unable to deliver back its clients from Greece and Turkey.
Top Tours reported Friday that all future trips will be canceled due financial difficulties and turned to Consumer Protection Board for help to refund the canceled flights and bring back the passengers. The company has a 3 million krooni (€191,734) guarantee from the board.
The Consumer Protection Board sent Estonian Air to bring back 421 passengers from abroad on Saturday. However, six people are still in Antalya, Turkey but they will be brought back by a Top Tour charter flight on May 30. Meanwhile Estonia’s biggest travel agency Estravel reported Monday that it will refund the package trips to those who purchased Top Tours through them, although the law does not oblige them to do so.
Anne Samplik, CEO of Estravel said that the 3 million krooni guarantee is not enough to compensate all the costs for their clients.
“Practically we will buy new trips for Top Tours’ clients, the client can also choose another destination,” Samlik told the press.
While the Top Tours bankruptcy proved inconvenient for the 427 customers, far more could have been stranded had the company ran out of money in August.
