VILNIUS — After much speculation, the National Resurrection Party put forward its candidate for Culture minister, its third attempt to fill the position.
The party pushed their own candidate Remigijus Vilkaitis into resigning in April, but the two candidates proposed for the culture[private_supervisor] minister’s positions were knocked back by President Dalia Grybauskaitė because she said they were unsuitable for the position.
Party leader Arūnas Valinskas revealed last week that the party had made a choice, but waited until after the weekend to reveal their candidate, Vice-Rector of Vilnius Art Academy, Arunas Gelūnas.
The 41-year-old academic is considered an intellectual artist and connoisseur of culture in Lithuania.
In an interview with local media, Gelūnas discussed plans for the post including a revamp of the culture program in the nation’s schools.
Gelūnas will be presented to the president for assessment. Before a candidate can become a minister, the president must approve them.
