LONDON — Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi fine vein of form on grass has continued at Wimbledon.
Her latest victim was Romania’s Edina Gallovits who could only push the Estonian in the second set before falling in two 6-4, 7-5.
Kanepi had the upper hand throughout, pushing her opponent to an astonishing 16 times, converting on five of those occasions.
The win now sets her up a date with another Romanian, 31st seed Alexandra Dulgheru. Given her form to date, it is hard to go past Kanepi to win the up and coming encounter to stretch her Wimbledon run into week two.
It is the Estonian’s fifth win from six games in two tournaments on grass this season, a feat made all the more impressive considering she has had to qualify for the main draw in both tournaments.
