BUDAPEST, Hungary — Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova has moved into the final 8 following a destructive performance in the round of 16.
Showing little respect for the 5th seeding of her opponent Shuai Peng of China, Sevastova took just over 48 minutes to run over the world no. 44 6-1, 6-1.
Peng was completely outplayed by the young Latvian, who showed experience far beyond her 20 years. Unchallenged on her own serve, Sevastova demolished the serve off her opponent, pushing her to break point on 11 occasions, converting on 6 of them.
On Thursday Sevastova will be following the game between Anna Chakvetadze of Russia and 2nd seed Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania with interest as she prepares to meet the winner in tomorrow’s quarter final.
Word in the Dulgheru camp is she may be forced to withdraw due to injury, meaning Chakvetadze will automatically move through to meet Sevastova.
