TALLINN — On Thursday the Viru District Prosecutor’s Office sent a former Narva municipal official to trial on bribery charges.
The Viru District Prosecutor’s Office alleges that that 35-year-old Arkadi Nikolajev, former acting manager of the director of Narva municipality economic office repeatedly asked bribes from different people during the period from 2006-08, in return promising to favor them for municipal orders and assuring that further services will be requested from them.
Nikolajev is suspected of receiving 275,957 krooni (€17,636) in bribes.
According to Kalmer Kase, prosecutor at the Viru District Prosecutor’s Office, Nikolajev also asked the bribers to give away part of the money for bribes which was paid by the municipal government for their services.
“To conceal the crime the money was transferred to the account of OÜ Päikese Agency, whose board member was 31-year old Marina Kolossovskaja, who also took part of the meetings where bribes were arranged,” Kalmer Kase, a Viru District prosecutor told the press.
Kolossovskaja and her company OÜ Päikese Agency is accused in contributing to taking and giving bribes and violating accounting obligations. Aigars Paegle, Gennady Borisov and a man named Aleksandr (last name not released) are accused in giving bribes, along with companies Ksil Eesti OÜ and OÜ GEOS TEK.
A criminal investigation concerning the case was initiated in 2008. The first hearing of the trial has not been set yet.
