RIGA — Although it brought more people than ever and featured big names in popular music this past weekend, Latvia’s Positivus Festival apparently did not earn a profit this year, organizers said on Monday.
The Positivus Festival, held near tiny Salacgrīva on the northern coast featured Glastonbury headliners Muse as well as the Happy Mondays, Scissor Sisters and other international acts this year. But organizers say the ticket price was not high enough to recoup the 700,000 lats (€987,000) budget for the two-day festival.
“No losses were suffered, but profits — no,” Positivus organizer Ģirts Majors told the Diena newspaper in an interview published on Monday.
Next year the ticket price will likely be 5 lats (€7) higher, Majors said. Adding another day to the festival is also being considered.
Attendance at this year’s Positivus, which saw above 30˚C temperatures during the day, is initially estimated to be 30 percent higher than in 2009.
