VILNIUS — The Effigy clothing chain is shutting down all 11 of its shops in Lithuania, citing poor sales and depressing outlook for the country’s retail market as domestic demand remains weak after the economic crisis.

Effigy, which sold hip, fashionable casual clothes targeted at the under 30 age group, has locations in malls in all of the country’s largest cities. The stores will remain open until the fall and feature continuous discount sales until they’re finally shuttered.

“Given the poor performance and Lithuanian retail market outlook, the company decided to suspend operations,” Jolita Mieliauskienė, Effigy business development and sales director told the Verslo Žinios business newspaper.

Effigy is a subsidiary of the SBA group, which runs a number of retail chains and export companies in Lithuania.
