CINCINATTI, U.S. — Both Baltic tennis stars Ernests Gulbis and Kaia Kanepi have been eliminated from their respective tournaments this week.
Gulbis reached the top 16 in the Cincinnati Masters to put up a solid effort against no. 4 Andy Murray. However, after winning the first set 4-6 the drawback of the Latvian’s usual aggressive style, unforced errors, racked up to 42 in total which Murray took advantage of to win the next two sets 6-3 and 7-6.
The Estonian’s success in the Montreal tournament thus far, beating no. 14 Shahar Peer this week, proved short-lived as she was crushed by reigning U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters. Kanepi managed to win only three games, losing 6-2, 6-1.
