This is the best winter weather for cross-country skiing in years in Estonia.
TALLINN — Estonia just won a silver medal for cross-country skiing, but you don’t have to be an Olympic athlete to enjoy the trails here. The terrain is not terribly difficult, the trails are beautiful and this winter’s weather is perfect with plenty of snow.
Most locals use the opportunity of winter weather and enjoy their time outside. Estonia’s national sport after all is skiing. Estonia doesn’t have big mountains for downhill, but they have world-class cross-country skiers such as [private_supervisor]Andrus Veerpalu, Jaak Mae and Kristina Smigun-Vähi.
You don’t even have to go any further than Tallinn. Pirita, about 3 km away from the city center, and Nõmme, around 4 km from the center both offer trails with scenic terrain.
Pirita Forest boasts several different trails with overall length of 8 km. The trails are lit until 11 p.m. and are the most scenic of both trails — the landcape is hilly and the view shows the frozen Pirita River, which can be crossed at the Lükati bridge leading to the Ambrose Hills for those up for a challenge.
The Nõmme Sports Center offers a ski has a 15 km cross-country trail, plus a down hill slope and even a jumping tower for true thrill-seekers. and or the ones who want more exitement. Just like in Pirita, the trails here are lit late. Skis are available for rent if you bring your ID. Full package ski rent at both places cost 50 krooni (€3.10) for one hour, and 30 krooni (€1.90) for children, students and pensioners.
