VILNIUS — If you’re not already familiar with Lithuania, an easy one-day crash course on its traditional culture will be held Saturday with the Kaziuko Mugė fair in Vilnius. Oh, and there will be hot beer, too.
A part of Lithuanian culture for over two centuries, it’s the ultimate outdoor market experience in a country that offers many of those. On the first Saturday of March, it signifies the end of winter, honors Lithuania’s patron [private_supervisor]saint St. Casimir, initiates the Palm Sunday celebrations and is held in downtown Vilnius and Kaunas.
You’ll find homemade crafts, paintings, meats, pastries, bread and clothes. The most unique of all the creations is the verbos, bouquets of dried flowers that are an beautiful example of folk art.

There’s plenty of eating and drinking options, too as hot beer and hot wine are served along with sausages grilled in onions.
In Vilnius’ Town Hall Square there will be dancers in folk costumes and market stand will stretch from there to down Pilies Street and halfway down Gedimino Prospect, and also up Mairono Street to the outdoor market on Aukštaičių. In Kaunas the fair is concentrated on Laisvės Avenue.
