VARNA, Bulgaria — Infamous Lithuanian fugitive Henrikas “Henytė” Daktaras, alleged head of the criminal organization Daktarai (The Doctors), was arrested today in Varna, Bulgaria after a seven-month investigation by a multinational police force.
Daktaras was staying in a villa in Varna belonging to a Lithuanian citizen. The five-time convicted criminal had changed his appearance to avoid authorities, undergoing plastic surgery procedures.
However, the disguise did not prevent the investigative team, hailing from Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Norway, Spain and the Europol organization from locating him.
Daktaras may face a variety of charges, including heading a criminal organization, murder, attempted murder, robbery and extortion. The gangster has been on the run since December 2008 when police began moving against members of The Doctors. Daktaras has a long history of criminal activity — he was first arrested when he was only 19.
