VILNIUS — The Lithuanian government announced Saturday that computer manufacturer IBM is considering building a research facility in the small Baltic state.
Following almost two years of economic doom and gloom Lithuania has begun to see light at the end of the tunnel with two big investors coming to the country. Both Barclays and more recently Ryanair have made [private_supervisor]large investments into the country that will create jobs. Barclays just opened their IT facility, which will by the end of 2010 employ around 500. Ryanair is expected to open a new base in Kaunas in May.
Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius announced the news that IBM were looking at Lithuania for investment during a meeting with his political party’s board on March 6.
“Yesterday we met with the IBM delegation, which plans to found a research and development department,” Kubilius said during the meeting.
Kubilius’ spokesman Virginijus Valentinavičius confirmed to Baltic Reports that IBM had registered their interested in the country.
