Two cops seriously injured after assault

KLAIPĖDA, Lithuania — Two police officers in Klaipėda are recovering after two separate alleged stabbing and bashing attacks over the last week led to hospitalization in both cases.

According to the Lietuvos Rytas newspaper, one officer was stabbed in the chest when he went to inspect a suspect’s flat following a court order. Police arrived at the home, but were not allowed in by the suspects. The police them employed the [private_supervisor]help of firefighters to enter the home.

Upon entering the apartment on Kretinga Street, the assailant stabbed the police officer in the chest and was arrested. The officer is in hospital where doctors are examining the damage caused by the 40-year-old criminal, who is in custody.

Another incident on Debreceno Street occurred when police were called to the flat of a 26-year-old man who was making too much noise.

When police entered the flat, the man struck out against a female officer and hit her in the head. After a few hours, the policewoman was taken to hospital where she was diagnosed with concussion. She was allowed to go home for rest and treatment.

The assailant was found to have been highly intoxicated with a 0.17 blood alcohol level.
