TALLINN — The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it would not seek the expulsion of a Russian diplomat that allegedly fled the scene after being pulled over by police in Narva, Estonia earlier this week for suspected drunk driving.
“We approached the Russian embassy to seek an explanation,” Kersti Luha, a ministry spokesperson told Baltic Reports. “Now it is the Russian embassy’s turn to decide whether to start some type of punishment or not or do their own.”
A Toyota Corolla with diplomatic plates driven by Russian diplomat Sergei Suhharev was pulled over in the wee hours of Sept. 6. The incident has been widely reported in the Estonian press.
It’s unclear what penalty Suhharev may receive, if any. The Russian Foreign Ministry has so far declined to comment to the media about the case.
