CHARLESTON, U.S. — Latvian Anastasija Sevastova’s run of good results has been halted in her latest outing.
Returning to the court after a short lay-off, Sevastova was hoping for an easy run into the second round at the Family Circle Cup. However, first round opponent Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden gave her more of a fight than she had bargained for as her game suffered a complete meltdown, which was reflected in the 1-6, 2-6 scoreline.
Saving just 2 of 7 break points compared to Arvidsson’s 9 from 9 always spelled trouble for the Latvian, coupled with her average return rate on first serve. Sevastova may see a drop in her world ranking of 61 as a result of the poor performance.
