JELGAVA, Latvia — Ventspils and Flora have joined Liepājas Metalurgs and Sūduva in the Triobet Baltic League final four.
Playing their return leg quarterfinals on Wednesday night Ventspils were able to secure victory over Vėtra at home whilst Flora was able to cause the upset of the quarters, defeating [private_supervisor]Ekranas 2-1 away.
Ventspils have been considered the benchmark in Baltic football in recent times, a reputation they upheld in defeating Vėtra 1-0 to move through 3-1 on aggregate, having won the first leg 2-1.
In the other quarter final Ekranas were expected to move with ease into the final four to join their fellow Lithuanians Sūduva, who had caused something of an upset the night previous in defeating Levadia Tallinn who had been earmarked as Estonia’s main hopes this season.
But instead it is Flora who is left to wave the flag for Estonia, following their shock 2-1 away victory over Ekranas. Following a scoreless first leg in which Ekranas had traveled with an understrength team, they had been expected to do it easy at home with their top lineup taking the field.
The first leg of the semifinals will take place on May 25 and 26. Who will play who is set to be decided at a later date, using a lottery system. [/private_supervisor] [private_subscription 1 month]Ekranas 2-1 away.
