VILNIUS — Owner of Achema Grupė Bronislavas Lubys has again been named the richest citizen of Lithuania, retaining his number one position from last year.
Each year the Veidas magazine publishes a list of the country’s richest people. Surprisingly, the economic crisis, which hit the [private_supervisor]country badly last year and in 2008 has not changed the list significantly despite the amount of businesses that went under.
Number one Lubys is reported to be worth around 1.2 billion litai (€348 million), however his assets have lost significant value. Last year his assets were worth around 2 billion litai and in 2008 they were valued at 3 billion.
Nerijus Numavičius, one of the shareholders of VP Grupė, which owns Maxima, Eurovaistine, Akropolis and many other companies retained his position in second place. He is worth an estimated 1.1 billion litai.
Darius Mockus, the owner of MG Baltic came in third place with a value exceeding 1 billion litai.
Augustinas Rakauskas of the Senukai group came in fourth and other VP Grupė shareholder Žilvinas Marcinkevičius came in fifth.

The sooner Lithuania gets rid of such oligarchs the better it will be for all.
