Baltic football leagues round-up Sept. 15 – 22

Meistriliiga (Estonia)

It was business at usual at the top of the Meistriliiga as Levadia continued their unbeaten run, recording another two wins during the week. The first win came at the expense of fourth placed Flora on Tuesday (3-1) and Kuresaarre on Sunday (3-1).

JK Sillamäe Kalev stays firmly locked in second place after winning 3-1 over visitors Tulevik. Trans have begun to fall off the pace after only being able to record an away 1-1 draw with Paide. However, they will take heed of the fact that Flora were unable to gain any ground on them, after also only managing a draw with Kalju to go with their loss earlier in the week.

In the only other match, Maag Tammeka were far too strong for hosts Tallinna Kalev recording a 6-1 away victory with two of those goals coming in the final minute. It now leaves Tallinna Kalev seven points adrift of the rest of the field.

LMT Virslīga (Latvia)

In the biggest move of the week, Skonto have produced two strong performances to overtake Ventspils on the points table, though Ventspils still have a game in hand. While Ventspils were performing  admirably in wider Europe, Skonto were performing just as well at home with a 4-0 home win over Blāzma on Thursday. This was then followed up with a 3-1 away win over Tranzits on Sunday.

Liepāja Metalurgs remain top of the table for now with a 3-0 home victory over Olimps on Thursday. Olimps’ poor run continued when they returned home on Sunday to play Ventspils where they lost 2-0. Dinaburg remain untroubled in fourth spot, beating visitors Tranzīts 2-1 on Thursday before traveling to Jūrmala for a 1-0 victory on Sunday.

A-Lyga (Lithuania)

Action started in Lithuania on Wednesday when Ekranas took on hosts Vėtra. However the top-of-the-table clash finished 0-0 after both teams failed to deliver at the front. Both teams though were able to find the back of the net with no problem in their following matches on Sunday.

Ekranas were in complete control in their game against LKKA, scoring two goals in the first fifteen minutes before going on to win 3-0. A goal in each half also assured Ekranas of a comfortable 2-0 win over Banga.

In other Sunday action Sūduva and Taurus played out the second 0-0 draw of the week whilst Šiauliai’s two second-half goals proved the difference as they went on to beat hosts Kruoja 3-1.
