LONDON — Young Lithuanian Ričardas Berankis showed plenty of fight before falling to the much more fancied Feliciano López at Wimbledon on Wednesday.
Playing in his first ever grand slam, Berankis had done well to make it past the first round and would have been happy enough to claim a set of the 22nd seed in going down 5-7, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.
The young 20-year-old showed enough grit to alert onlookers of his future talents, particularly once he gets a few more games at this level under his belt.
Playing such a highly-rated opponent has given him invaluable match experience and he shall be a much more formidable opponent in tournaments to come.
