RIGA — This weekend was the hottest so far this year in the Baltic states, with clear skies and temperatures near 35˚C in Lithuania, 32˚C in Latvia and 30˚C in Estonia, as hot of summer weather as anywhere else in Europe.
The sun and hot weather makes a trip to one of the region’s many beaches sound tempting, as the Mediterranean-style weather is expected to continue throughout the week in all three countries, interrupted only by a couple days of showers in the Riga area but no drop in temperature — above 30˚C over the next seven days and perhaps shooting up to 34˚C on Saturday.
The heat has the normally chilly Baltic Sea water warm, as the water temperature was reported at 23˚C in Klaipėda, Lithuania.
So far the heat has not caused any reported deaths or heat strokes.
